Call for Video Abstracts

Sino-European Robotic Thoracic Surgery Summit (SERTS) 2026

The Sino-European Summit on Robotic Thoracic Surgery (SERTS 2026) invites surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to submit video abstracts for inclusion in the scientific program.

SERTS 2026 will bring together European and Chinese experts to discuss current practice and innovation in robotic thoracic surgery, with a particular focus on post-induction surgery, complex resections, sleeve procedures, operative strategy, and technical expertise in challenging cases.

This call is intended for contributors wishing to share a high-quality educational surgical video, supported by a structured written abstract.

Scope of Submissions

Submissions are welcome in areas including:

Robotic lobectomy and segmentectomy
Robotic sleeve resections
Complex or extended resections
Surgery after chemo-immunotherapy (CT-IO)
Intraoperative strategy, troubleshooting, and technical tips
Innovative robotic approaches and workflow optimisation

Video Requirements

Each submission must include a high-quality surgical video in English, with a maximum duration of 3 minutes. The preferred format is MP4, ideally in Full HD.

For review purposes, English voice-over narration is mandatory. The narration should clearly explain the clinical context, indication, operative strategy, main surgical steps, technical challenges, and key learning points. Videos submitted without narration will not be considered for review.

If selected for presentation during the congress, the video may be shown without audio during the session. Live narration by the speaker will then be required. The surgeon performing the procedure shown in the video, or where appropriate a co-author directly involved in the case, will be expected to present the video in English and answer questions from the audience.

 Recommended Video Structure

To ensure consistency and educational value, videos should follow a clear and practical structure:

Introduction / Indication

Brief presentation of the clinical setting, indication, and relevance of the case or technique.

Operative Strategy

Description of patient positioning, robotic setup, port placement, and overall surgical plan.

Surgical Technique

Clear step-by-step demonstration of the key operative stages.

Tips, Pitfalls, and Technical Challenges

Important decision points, difficult moments, troubleshooting strategies, and practical advice.

Outcome and Take-home Message

Postoperative result, short outcome when available, and main lessons for practice.

The aim is not only to show an operation, but to explain how and why the procedure is performed, and what other surgeons can learn from it.

Written Abstract

Each video must be accompanied by a 200-word structured abstract in English.

The abstract title should be short and specific. To allow blinded review, the body of the abstract should not contain the names of institutions or other identifying information.

The abstract should be structured as follows:

  • Purpose
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

 Review Process

All submissions will undergo peer review.

To ensure fairness, submissions should be prepared for blinded review. Author names, institution names, and other identifying references should not appear in the abstract text and should be avoided in the video whenever possible.

Submissions will be evaluated according to:

  • educational value
  • relevance to robotic thoracic surgery
  • originality and innovation
  • technical quality of the video
  • clarity of presentation
  • usefulness for surgical practice

Selected submissions may be included in a video session, a case-based discussion, or another format chosen by the scientific committee depending on the final programme.

All selected videos will be displayed on a large screen in the exhibition area and shown on a continuous loop during coffee breaks and lunch, allowing participants to view them throughout the day.

The three best videos, as selected by the scientific committee, will be presented during the final part of the congress. Each presentation will include 4 minutes of presentation followed by 2 minutes of questions. A prize will be awarded to the best abstract.

Ethical Requirements

Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • patient confidentiality is strictly protected
  • all identifying patient information is removed from the video and any accompanying images
  • all necessary patient consent and institutional permissions have been obtained, when applicable
  • the submitted content is educational and non-promotional

Disclosure Policy

All authors must declare:

  • conflicts of interest
  • financial relationships with industry
  • any other relevant disclosures related to the submitted work

If selected, presenters will be required to include a disclosure slide at the beginning of their presentation.

     General Conditions

By submitting an abstract and video to SERTS 2026, authors confirm that they have read and accepted the following conditions:

    Presentation in case of acceptance

If the submission is accepted, the authors commit to presenting it during the congress on September 11, 2026, according to the format and schedule determined by the scientific committee.
Accepted videos may also be displayed in the exhibition area during the congress.

    Presenting author

The presentation must be delivered by the presenting author or a co-author, ideally the surgeon featured in the video. Failure to present an accepted submission may result in exclusion from future calls for abstracts.

    Disclosure of interests

Declaration of conflicts of interest is mandatory for all co-authors. Additional presentation requirements will be communicated to selected speakers.

    Neutrality of content

Submitted abstracts, videos, and presentations must not contain political statements or non-scientific opinion-based content.

    Declaration regarding artificial intelligence

Authors must declare whether artificial intelligence tools were used, or not used, in the preparation of the abstract and/or video.

    Originality and author approval

The submitted work must be original, and all listed authors must have approved the final submission.

Final decision of the scientific committee

The scientific committee reserves the right to accept or reject submissions and to determine the final presentation format.
